The Easy Way Out | Portugal Trip

When you travel, you can tell a story. That’s an old saying. Whoever thought that skate trips aren’t more than three star hotels, breakfast in drive-in’s and spending money on snacks and nonsense at every second gasstation is wrong. Or maybe right, since you’ll probably never find out more that that. Even if the ambition of such a travels is to find as many spots and collect as much footage as possible, it’s mostly one thing: a road trip.

The funniest and weirdest stories usually never make it into the magazines and rarely into the video edit, due to an old rule: What happens on tour, stays on tour.

It all started in March, it was freezing cold in germany and cali didnt really have anything exciting to offer when we decided to take a trip to southern Portugal. We heard about nice weather, uncountable amounts of good spots and were in the fortunate situation, to have acesss to a friends holiday residence.

We booked some cheap flights and quickly made our way to Faro. The crew consisted Mark Frölich, Maxim Rosenbauer, Hendrik Herzmann, our curb killer Manolo Robles from Spain as well as our favorite homies from overseas, also known as Louie Barletta, Derek Fukuhara and Mikendo.

Derek and Mikendo got stuck in New York, and had to spend a night in New York so Louie had to kill some time by himself in Lisbon. Luckily the next day everyone made it and we all met in Algoz at our little summer residence. We quickly hit every spot within 30 miles around there, spent the evenings cooking pasta, drinking beers and telling funny stories. Louie gave us some deep insights into the Californian skateculture and teached us fun stuff about “Jithamar”, which is the shortcut for John “The Man” Reeves and about some other dude who likes to write poets to little girls. We’re on the internet here, so i guess i better keep the details for myself…

After a few days, some weird situations at the local restaurants, bakeries and gas stations we decided to drive up to Lisbon, stopping at one of Portuagals best spots in Setubal, thats where most of the footage you see here is from. Right after that we hit Portugal’s capital, which was a blast. The city is wonderful, as long as you have a guide and a car you’ll be able to hit all the perfect skatespots. Did i mention that the food is really good and Portuguese people are so hospitable? I’d say having a good guide is the one thing that makes Portugal accessible for Skate trip, because trying to find spots by yourself, you’ll get lost.
